Over the course of the last month, the respective staffs of Savannah Celtic FC and Coastal Georgia Soccer Association have discussed tentative plans on how we could potentially join forces for the betterment of youth soccer in Savannah. We are extremely pleased to announce and reveal the name of this area’s newest and largest youth soccer club, SAVANNAH UNITED.

The U/14 Girls have completed a remarkable run of success recently that has seen them advance from Athena ’D’ division to Athena ’A’ division (highest division in the state of GA) in the last four seasons. The U/14 Girls, who completed their regular spring league season a couple of weeks ago, were officially crowned division champions this past week. The U/14 girls were kept waiting before they could celebrate, but now their closest rivals for the title cannot over take them, it’s official!!

The U/13 Girls enjoyed a tremendous spring season and will advance to the next division in the state league for the fall 2013. The ’99 Shockers narrowly missed out on the division title, but ended up as runners-up to secure an advancement place. Under the close guidence of coach keith Drittler and Jessie Pedigo the team put together some great performances this spring and will be looking forward to the challenge of playing in a higher division next fall! Congratualtions to the U/13 Girls, coach Drittler and coach Pedigo.

Congratulations to the SSA of Coastal Georgia 01 Blue Boys on their Championship at the Coast FA Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina!  The boys were in the top division and finished a perfect 4-0 record, whilst outscoring their opponents 9-2 on the weekend. The boys played very high quality competition from North Carolina and South Carolina on the weekend.

Two current Southern Soccer Academy of Coastal Georgia players and one graduating player have all committed to play high level collegiate soccer. Both Brooke Standard and Kelsey Higgason have verbally committed to play for AASU starting in the fall 2014 season, and Christopher McMurray who played the majority of his club career for the Rovers ’94 has signed a 4 year scholarship to play for Division I Georgia Southern University.

Southern Soccer Academy of Coastal Georgia will start 2013 with new major sponsorship deals in place. The club are pleased to announce the renewal of JCB as one of their club sponsor, along with large corporate companies McDonalds and Hugo Boss as new club sponsors. Two local companies in Southern Motors and Optim Orthopedics have also agreed to become a club sponsor and renew their sponsorship respectively.

Southern Soccer Academy of Coastal Georgia are proud to announce that 10 of it’s current players have made the GA or SC Olympic Development Program (ODP) teams. The ODP is the national system each state uses to identify the best players in each age group starting at U/11. These players then come together to train at various times during each month and represent the state of GA against the other states in games throughout the year. The ODP system in the past has been used to identify players for the USA National and Olympic teams. If you want to play ODP, then Southern Soccer Academy of Coastal Georgia is a good place to be!

Coastal Georgia Soccer Association has now become part of the newly formed Southern Soccer Association, and we will become the southern branch of this large new academy. This is a major step forward for Coastal Georgia and we would like to welcome and thank all players and their families for their support of our rapidly growing organization.
