CGSA U/6 Soccer Skills Program, Lives Up To It's Name On U-Tube!

CGSA U/6 player Junho Chang showed of some of the soccer skills he has been learning with his team and his team coach Danny Tomlinson. Junho was captured on video playing for his team the ’The Pirates’ in one of his recent U/6 soccer skiils games. The video clip was so good that it has now made the the U -Tube website. Junho was receiving the ball from one of his team mates from a throw in, he then flicked the ball up in the air with his first touch and proceeded to volley the ball over his oppenents head and into the goal. Not bad for a 5 year old!

More CGSA Players Earn College Scholarships!

Another seven CGSA players (see below) recently agreed to and/or signed letters of intent to join colleges to play soccer. This alone brings the number this year to 9 players and there are certainly going to be more over the coming months with a few of the CGSA seniors still undecided, but with good offers on the table. This clearly shows that CGSA is the place to play your "serious soccer" if you are interested in going onto to play college ball. Over the years CGSA has produced in excess of 75 players who have gone onto combine a great college education and play college soccer.

CGSA and their coaching staff are very proud to be giving these athletes the opportunity to follow their dreams!

Soccer College bound:

Matthew Ball - West Point Military University, Megan Thompson - Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Tyler Albritton - South Georgia College, Tyler Hooks - South Georgia College, Jake Carter - South Georgia College, Angela Poulos - West Palm Atlantic State College, Greyson Surges - Oglethorpe College

CGSA Staff Coaches Organize Regional Special Olympics Again

The Regional Special Olympics event was held recently with CGSA and their staff coaches, Andy Clarke and Charlie Moore, organizing the soccer events again this year. This is the fourth year that CGSA has been involved with this great program. The athletes compete in a series of events and their scores are written down for each event. All athletes at the end of the day receive a participation award and the qualyifying athletes then move onto the State finals which are held in May. CGSA Club Director Gary Wright said " This is such a great program and for the club to help in any way it can is wonderful. To see these athletes, who have limited movements and other disabilities, giving every piece of effort they can really is magnificent".

Another College Coach Joins CGSA Coaching Staff
GSU Woman’s coach Jamey Newsome has recently joined the ever increasing list of highly qualified coaches at CGSA. Jamey now joins the list of other college coaches who are actively involved in the Coastal Goergia organization. Currently CGSA has  Rob Weisel (SCAD Men’s Assistant coach), Andy Williamson (SCAD Woman’s Head coach) , Eric Faulconer (AASU Woman’s Head coach), Leeanna Woodworth (AASU Woman’s Assistant coach) and Brad Nein (former Salisbury University Woman’s coach) amongst their impressive list of staff coaches. Jamey will be working with Leeanna Woodworth and the U/14 Shockers this spring as they try to build on their impressive fall 07 season.
