Academy/Select Soccer Fact Sheet
Spring 2012/Fall 2012
Teams:
CGSA will have annually selected Academy/ Select Soccer Teams for both boys and girls in every age bracket from U/9 to U/19. There are, on occasion, seasons when a particular age or gender will not have a team. It is expected that once a player is selected and agrees to play, that he or she is committed to the team for the whole season i.e. fall U/15 - U/19 and fall/spring season U/9 -U/14.
Cost:
For U/10 thru U/12, the registration fee each season will be $350 plus uniform (please see uniform section below). For U/13 - U/19 Select teams the registration fee for each season will be $360.00 plus uniform (if applicable). The U/9 Academy will be a $250 registration fee plus uniform. This includes GYSA registration, insurance, referee fees, local authority fee, and all coaches training fees.
Travel:
On average, CGSA select teams have 4 or 5 away games. These away games are usually in the metro Atlanta area but can be anywhere in the state of GA. CGSA request that the away games be played as a Saturday/Sunday pair so that the teams only need to make two or three road trips. The academy teams will generally play three academy festivals in Savannah and have three/four dates when they will play festivals in other areas. These games are normally within a two hour drive and are day trips.
Coaching:
The CGSA Executive Club Director assigns the academy/select coaches for each team. All of our academy/select coaches are USSF licensed with most holding a “D” license or better. National level licensed coaches also work within the academy/select programs during the season.
Schedules:
The regular spring season will run from early March to mid May. Team tryouts are held at the end of May for U/9 - U/13 and the second week in June for U/14 - U/19 age groups (please see website calendar for dates). The regular fall season will run from early September to mid November.
Tournaments:
Each Academy/Select team is required to go to one pre-season tournament in the fall. This fall, the teams will again be attending the Charlotte Soccer Academy Invitational Cup (Charlotte, NC) August (TBA) (U/11 - U/19 Boys) and August (TBA) (U/9 - U/10 Boys & U/11 U/19 Girls). The teams will also have the option of attending the First Coast Jacksonville Labor Day Shootout (Labor Day weekend). The Select U/15 - U/19 teams are required to attend the Savannah Senior Cup College Showcase in November, as part of their season. The U/15 - U/17 age groups can also attend the Savannah Cups in January as well if they wish. The Academy teams will have their schedule set by the CGSA Academy Director and this schedule will be posted on the CGSA website. The U/13-U/14 select teams will have some tournament options during the fall season. Both the U/9 - U/12 academy teams and the U/13- U/14 Select teams are required to attend the Savannah Select Cups(Girls Rock/Boys Rule) in January as part of their season. The cost for all tournaments and coaches travel expenses are not included in the registration fee and is handled by the team manager.
