Academy/Select Soccer Fact Sheet
Spring 09 / Fall 09
CGSA will have annually selected Academy/ Select Soccer Teams for both boys and girls in every age bracket from U/9 to U/19. There are, on occasion, seasons when a particular age or gender will not have a team. It is expected that once a player is selected and agrees to play, that he or she is committed to the team for the whole season i.e. fall U/15 - U/19 and fall/spring season U/9 -U/14.
For U/11 thru U/19, the fall registration fees will be $350 plus uniform for new players (please see uniform section below). The U/9 - U/10 Academy will be a $250 registration fee plus uniform for new players. This includes GYSA/US Club Soccer registration, insurance, referee fees, local authority fee, team camp and all coaches training fees. (There is a reduced registration cost for the spring ’09 season, U/9 -U/10 Players - $150, U/11 - U/14 Players - $250).
On average, CGSA select teams have 4 or 5 away games. These away games are usually in the metro Atlanta area but can be anywhere in the state of GA. CGSA request that the away games be played as a Saturday/Sunday pair so that the teams only need to make two or three road trips. The academy teams will generally play three academy festivals in Savannah and have three/four dates when they will play festivals in other areas. These games are normally within a two hour drive and are day trips.
The CGSA Club Director assigns the academy/select coaches for each team. All of our academy/select coaches are USSF licensed with most holding a “D” license or better. National level licensed coaches also work within the academy/select programs during the season.
The regular fall season will run from early September to mid November. The regular spring season will run from early March to mid May. Team tryouts are held in early June.
Each Academy/Select team is required to go to one pre-season tournament in the fall. This fall, the teams will again be attending the South Charlotte Invitational Cup (Charlotte, NC) August 15th/16th. The teams will also have the option of attending the First Coast Jacksonville Labor Day Shootout (September 5th/6th/7th).The Select U/15 - U/19 teams are required to attend the Savannah Senior Cup College Showcase in November, as part of their season. The Academy/Select teams, U/9 -U-14 will also be attending the Columbia United Tournament, early October, and are required to attend the Savannah Select Cups(Girls Rock/Boys Rule) in January as part of their season. The cost for all tournaments and coaches travel expenses are not included in the registration fee and is handled by the team manager.
Most select teams train twice a week at either the Chatham County Soccer Complex or other CGSA sponsored facilities around the area. Actual days and times will be determined by the team coach and availability of field space.

All payments for fall and or spring season shall be paid for prior to the Charlotte Tournament (fall) or first regular season game(spring). If said payment is not made prior to the first scheduled game, the player’s game card will not be provided to the team manager and or coach meaning this player will be unavailable for any team games. The player card will only be issued after payment has been received. If a player has an outstanding balance from a previous season, the “no play” rule will be in force until the amount in question is satisfied. This rule is in force for regular season games and or preseason tournaments and shall apply to all players either in recreational, academy or select programs.” Once a player has been assigned to a team roster there will be no refunds after team camp week.
