Academy Coordinator

Chris O’Neal has worked with CGSA since August of 2009.  Chris is currently serving as the Academy Coordinator and the coach of the U9 & U10 Boys programs at CGSA.

The primary goal is to ensure the future growth of the CGSA program by increasing the standards of instruction for both player and coaching development.  He strives to promote soccer within the Chatham/Savannah community and to provide an environment to develop and prepare players for the next level.

O’Neal currently holds the USSF National ‘C’ license and plans on receiving the USSF National ‘B’ License in the next year. He also holds a Bachelor’s of Social and Behavioral Science degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University.

O’Neal has an extensive playing career from the youth ranks where he rose to the ODP Region II and III teams, and was the member of several state championship teams with AFC Lightning (Atlanta) and Memphis Rangers (Memphis).  In high school, he was a varsity player all four years and earned All State (Ohio) Honors in both his Junior and Senior years.

He played collegiately at University of Alabama at Birmingham where he led the NCAA Division 1 soccer team to a National Top 25 ranking in all 4 years, including a ranking as high as #4 in the country.  While at UAB, O’Neal was a member of the NCAA Tournament teams for 2 years reaching the Sweet 16 and the Elite 8.   After college Chris’ personal playing experience includes a season with the Atlanta Silverbacks PDL team, and the Atlanta Silverbacks professional USL-1 team.  He also had a brief stint overseas with HJK Helsinki of Finland, a team who was a recent competitor in the UEFA Champions League.

He hopes to carry his talents on to his coaching career at CGSA.
