The sun rose high in the springtime sky and shone brightly
on the Divas and the Richmond Hill Rockets.
The launching pad was cleared, Mission Control gave the go-ahead and the countdown neared zero.
Jinah jumped on the opening kick and quickly created a dangerous attack. Most goals come as a result of discipline (staying in your position) and hard work, and Anna proved both to be true. She resisted the urge to chase a ball into the corner, took the bouncing ball in front of the goal and guided it past the goalie to open the scoring. Then Lexi took a ball deep into the corner and Caroline proved it again when she accepted a beautiful pass and finished with a right-footed blast into the net. We gave up a goal just before halftime to make the score 2-1 Divas at the break.
The Rockets
fired a shot past our defense to tie the score early in the 2nd half and it stayed that way for a light year. Then Becca stole a ball in the opposition’s penalty box and scorched the net to break the tie. With the midday sun beaming, Kayla took a ball at midfield and launched a missile of her own
40+ yards over the surprised goalkeeper and into the top of the net. As soon as she hit it, Coach Sean said, "That thing’s going in!" Before we had stopped cracking jokes about the blast (Coach Chris - "What was the movie on that flight?"), she lined up another and did it again!
Maggie highlighted an inter-stellar defensive effort with 11 stops - most of them in 1-on-1 situations. Cat added 5 stops to her 4 saves in goal, Shelby took 3 shots on goal and added 4 stops, Tiana pitched in a pair of stops and Sarah took 2 shots on goal and saved 2 others. Mission accomplished, Divas.
Final score - Diamond Divas 5 Richmond Hill Rockets 2
